Howling Cactus: Independent Photography & Publishing

China
2019 - 2023

Howling Cactus is a photograph self-publishing group. consists of three creator from ChangSha, China. Three creators proposed three keywords: cactus, poet, screaming, and used this as a divergence to form our current group: howling cactus, which is a combination of three words in Chinese: the cactus poet(maybe a people) is screaming.

We focus on photography and Self-publishing. We have had four years of continuous creative output and produced five magazines. We also collaborate with public spaces such as streets, neighbourhoods and independent space for co-operative exhibitions.

As a romantic medium to stretch ourselves and daily thinking, images are compiled in the form of poetry in our books. We are obsessed with traditional photography craftsmanship and the ambiguous relationship between photography and poetry.Compose photos with poetry, convey poetry through photos. Photo is vocabulary, shooting form discourse, ultimately creating poetry.
